Net Neutrality

What is Net Neutrality?

It's a term we've all heard, but do you really know what it means? According to an article posted to USA Today, net neutrality is "the principle that Internet service providers (ISPs) should give consumers access to all legal content and applications on an equal basis, without favoring some sources or blocking others."

Okay, cool. So what's the big deal? Net Neutrality affects you and I by protecting our freedom of speech online. That's pretty important, since a lot of us like sharing our thoughts and opinions on various events on online sources. Savetheinternet.com describes it like a phone company not controlling who you call, so an Internet provider shouldn't control what content you see and post. Without net neutrality, the internet would be controlled by ISPs and these ISPs could enforce extra fees for faster and more content as well.

President Obama is a firm believer in Net Neutrality. I believe that Net Neutrality is important as well. The consequences of living in a world without it are far greater than the FCC regulations. The Internet would cease to exist as we know it without Net Neutrality regulations.

I hope this has been helpful in clearing up your understanding of Net Neutrality!

About Me

Howdy!

My name is Lydee Barnes, and I am a freshman Telecommunication Media Studies major from Murphy, Texas, but more importantly I am the loudest and the proudest member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie class of 2019. Texas A&M University is such a special place, and the Aggie Network is an amazing source for my future.

I'm not completely sure what I would like to do after college, but right now I'm thinking that I want to do Public Relations and Social Media for a company. This summer, I plan to shadow/intern with a couple in my church who have their own PR company to see if this is something I want to pursue when I graduate.

This blog is part of my Comm 230: Communication Technology Skills class at Texas A&M. I will be posting topics that pertain to the class lectures and assignments. I hope you enjoy reading about Communication Technology!
